About Rabbi Langowitz

  • "You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it"

    - Pirkei Avot 2:2

  • A native of Wellesley, MA, Rabbi Emily Langowitz received a M.A. in Hebrew Literature from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 2016 and was ordained at its New York campus in 2017. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Hebrew at Yale University in 2012. Rabbi Langowitz served a variety of communities, organizations, and congregations while in rabbinical school and after, including at Temple Solel in Paradise Valley, AZ.

Rabbi Langowitz worked for the Union for Reform Judaism as its Jewish Engagement and Learning Manager in 2021. There, Rabbi Langowitz worked with Reform congregations to provide more meaningful learning and engagement activities for adult learners, particularly newcomers.

Since July 2024, Rabbi Langowitz has served as the Executive Director of the Women’s Leadership Institute in Arizona. Rabbi Langowitz believes that skilled, connected, empowered Jewish women belong in every room where decisions are being made. She is driven in her rabbinical work by a commitment to joyful exploration of Jewish learning, empowering those who have felt marginalized to feel a full part of the Jewish community, and work with interfaith partners in the pursuit of a more just world.

Rabbi Langowitz lives in Phoenix with her wife Meg and their dog, Frank.

“Rabbi Langowitz offers new theology of her own. She suggests that we are commanded by the silence of all of the voices that were not included in our sacred texts and our canon: the voices of women, of queer people, of non-Jews in our community, of people of all minority categories. It is brilliant young leaders like Rabbi Emily Langowitz who should give us confidence that we are creating a Judaism that will speak to the generations to come.”

-Rabbi David Adelson, D.Min., Dean of HUC-JIR/New York
